Mesh topology is a type of network topology where each device is connected to every other device in the network through a dedicated point-to-point link. This creates a redundant and fault-tolerant network where data can be transmitted through multiple paths. Mesh topology can be classified as full mesh or partial mesh depending on the number of direct links between devices. Full mesh topology is where every device is directly connected to every other device, while partial mesh topology is where some devices are directly connected to every other device and others are only connected to some devices.

Advantages of Mesh Topology:
  • High reliability and fault tolerance due to redundant paths.
  • High scalability as more devices can be added without affecting the performance.
  • No central point of failure as each device can act as a repeater to transmit data.
  • Better performance as data can be transmitted concurrently through multiple paths.

Disadvantages of Mesh Topology:
  • High cost as a large number of cables and network ports are required.
  • High complexity in design, installation, and maintenance.
  • Low efficiency due to the large amount of data transmission overhead.
